ABOUT SFI WEST

California Ultimate is proud to host this year’s USA Ultimate Select Flight Invite – West at the SilverLakes sports complex in Norco, CA. Working with SilverLakes and the Greater Ontario Convention & Visitors Bureau is a huge win for the greater Ultimate community. SilverLakes is not only a fantastic field site, but it also provides the best spectator amenities around with a restaurant and bar onsite. Ontario not only has a plethora of great hotels and local eateries to choose from, but it also is home to the closest international airport (ONT) which is a mere 20 minutes from SilverLakes.

SFI West 2021 will feature over 30 teams battling in the men’s and mixed division. That’s over 90 action packed games of 7v7 Ultimate!

Players who are vaccinated must upload their proof of vaccination to their USAU member account prior to entering SilverLakes or else go through the PCR testing protocol.
  • Spectators are allowed on site but must stay behind the equipment lines at all times and comply with all CDC and California COVID-19 regulations. CUA encourages everyone to obtain a free vaccination or take a PCR test within 72 hours of interacting with large Ultimate events.
  • Both participants and spectators must wear masks when indoors per California’s most recent COVID-19 guidance.

***NOTE: the test must be a PCR test, not an antigen (AKA rapid) test, and it cannot be an at-home test.***

For SFI West that means your test must have been conducted AFTER 7:00am PST (10:00am EST) on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.

Once you have your results, please fill out this form and upload a picture or screenshot of your results. Results must include your name, date of test, that it was a PCR test, and the negative result. If your result is positive, you are not to attend and should quarantine. While we hope that Spirit of the Game extends to your honesty in filling this form out, any uploaded images that are found to have been altered or forged will result in immediate ejection from the tournament as well as potential suspension from future events.

If test results are unavailable prior to attending the event, you may still attend provided you are not exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms and provided you wear a mask while playing. If you receive a positive result prior to the event, you must not attend the event and must follow CDC and local requirements to reporting, contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine. We recommend that you inform your team and event organizers that you will not be attending and why. If you receive a positive result while at the event, you must report that to the event organizers and follow CDC and local requirements to contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine.

The safety of our players, their communities, and the communities in which we host events are of the utmost importance. Playing ultimate is a privilege, one that we can only participate in if we work together to ensure each other’s health and safety. If you have any questions or concerns please email carolina@hq.usaultimate.org.

TOURNEY EXPECTATIONS

  • Games on Saturday will start early (probably 8:30) so we can beat the heat a little.
  • Dogs and other pets are not allowed on site.
  • In the event of a heat schedule, some games may be rescheduled to the evening under lights on synthetic turf fields; please pack all of your preferred footwear as a precaution. Also please note that depending on division progress and scheduling options, a game that is played past the half-cap may be declared final.
  • All fields will have player lines and equipment lines; please respect your opponents by respecting them.
  • There may be an observer assigned to your game; there might not be. Always play with the spirit of the game front and center.
  • We will have athletic trainers on site starting 90 minutes before games begin each day.
  • It will likely be hot.
    • We will provide two 10′ x 14′ sun canopies per field plus ample water stations throughout the facility.
    • Please hydrate in the days leading up to the event in addition to day-of.
    • We have a Wet-Bulb Thermometer to monitor heat stress. We will be using USA Ultimate’s recommended guidelines – as needed – for altering play (mandatory heat timeouts, extra time between points, reduced round times, etc). Please click HERE to see the guidelines.
  • Players and spectators are encouraged to hang after the games at the restaurant and bar onsite.
  • CUA won’t be providing any complimentary food on site as there is a restaurant & concession stand on site which prohibits us from doing so.
  • We expect schedules to be out by Wednesday, August 11th in the early evening.

2020-2021 RULES & JERSEY REQUIREMENTS

  • There is some flexibility this season on jerseys. Mostly USAU asks that teams represent the sport well. Please do not wear sloppily made spray-painted cut-off t-shirts. If you can get jerseys in time, that’s great; but we understand many teams are getting a later than normal. Just make sure y’all look good, no inappropriate items or language, they should all be the same color, no gray jerseys; the usual. Normal jersey regulations will be in place by the Club Series.

GETTING TO & STAYING IN THE NORCO AREA

Select the appropriate number of players attending the event and then how many would like to attend the party. Your total will be calculated and then you’ll be redirected to PayPal to submit payment. • If for some reason you have a player that becomes unable to attend entirely (injury, etc) after paying, we ask that you inform us before Monday, August 9th. After the 9th we will not be able to offer any refunds.
  • We know this is on the expensive end of regular season tourney fees, but rest assured we are trying to keep costs down. Running events in Southern California on beautiful grass fields is not only expensive, but it takes a lot of time to plan and organize.
